Give every fact an owner
A catalog can be machine-readable and still be wrong. Decide which system controls identifiers, descriptions, specifications, media, price and stock. Document the precedence rule when two systems disagree. A marketing edit should not silently overwrite a manufacturer’s compatibility field; a feed rule should not become the only place where a critical correction exists.
Model the item a shopper can actually buy
Distinguish a parent product from a purchasable variant. A size or color change may alter stock, image, identifier or price. Use stable relationships instead of relying on title text alone. Structured properties can help machines interpret the record, but the property’s presence does not establish that its value is accurate.
Decide whether a PIM is warranted
A small single-market catalog may be maintainable in the commerce platform. A multi-brand, multi-language catalog with supplier imports can need stronger governance. Estimate the number of owners, transformations and correction loops before buying a PIM. In Stack Finder, a declared PIM counts as an existing capability to verify, not proof that your data is ready.
